Prevention

Organizations that conduct information campaigns with the objective of persuading people to avoid self-destructive behavior or habits such as smoking, alcohol abuse, drug abuse or delinquent behavior; or which help individuals or certain target populations to reduce the risk of contracting a specific disease or condition or being victimized in some way.

  • Harm Reduction (AIDS Prevention kits): programs that provide condoms, clean needles, ammonia for cleaning needles and other materials that can help stop the spread of AIDS among high-risk populations.

  • Testing - HIV: programs that offer the HIV antibody test or other screening procedures that are used to identify individuals who have been exposed to the virus and are risk for developing AIDS.

  • Testing - Sexually Transmitted Diseases: programs that identify individuals who have contracted gonorrhea, syphilis, genital heroes or other diseases that are spread by sexual contact and diagnose their conditions. The procedure includes visual examinations, blood tests and analyses of discharge or samples taken from lesions.

  • Testing - Tuberculosis: programs that identify individuals who have contracted tuberculosis by administering chest x-rays; the Mantoux test, the von Pirquet test or the Vollmer patch test, all of which determine the presence of as tuberculosis infection based on a local inflammatory reaction to a sample of the bacillus which has been injected or rubbed into the skin; or other screening tools.
